{The Heir and the Spare: Emily Albright}

{The Heir and the Spare: Emily Albright}

{Synopsis} – Family can be complicated. Especially when skeletons from the past pop up unexpectedly. For American Evie Gray, finding out her deceased mother had a secret identity, and not one of the caped crusader variety, was quite the surprise. Evie’s mom had a secret life before she was even born, one that involved tiaras.

In this modern day fairytale, Evie is on a path to figure out who her mom really was, while discovering for herself what the future will hold. Charged with her late mother’s letters, Evie embarks on a quest into her past. The first item on the list is to attend Oxford, her mom’s alma mater. There, Evie stumbles upon a real life prince charming, Edmund Stuart the second Prince of England, who is all too happy to be the counterpart to her damsel in distress.

Evie can’t resist her growing attraction to Edmund as they spend more time together trying to unravel the clues her mother left behind. But, when doubts arise as to whether or not Edmund could ever be with an untitled American, what really ends up unraveling is Evie’s heart. When Evie uncovers all the facts about her mom’s former life, she realizes her mom’s past can open doors she never dreamed possible, doors that can help her be with Edmund. But, with everything now unveiled, Evie starts to crack under the pressure of new family responsibilities and the realization that her perfect prince may want her for all the wrong reasons.

{My thoughts} – Eve is an incredible nineteen year-old girl that lost her mother when she was very young and was raised by her single father. On each birthday her father presents her with letters that her mother had written her so that she can still have insight and a piece of her mother with her always even though she is no longer with her. Evie decides to follow in her mother and fathers footsteps and attends Oxford college in England. There she starts to learn more about her mother and her mother’s life before she’d met her father. There she learns that her mother had a really deep secret that she’d kept from her father. She learned this through special quest letters that Evie was receiving from a close friend that her mother use to have.

While she is there she meets Edmound. He is a fantastic young man that makes her heartbeat faster when he is around her. He helps her to see that things aren’t always as the seem and that things can always get better, if they seem to be worse. She ends up becoming friends with a fantastic group of individuals and together they all do many things that Evie probably wouldn’t have done otherwise. However, she has the most fun when it is just her and Edmound doing things alone with one another.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a lot of twists and turns. Although many of them become expected, it is still a nicely laid out story that draws the reader in. I highly recommend this book for anyone that wants to read a light romance with a bit of a struggle, dashed with a side of arrogance. I am sure that you will enjoy it as much as I have. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

{Quotes I Enjoyed} –
{01} – I slid my keycard into my jeans pocket and followed, glad she’d come by. My plan had been to hole up in my room all night, eating pizza and watching Doctor Who reruns. Which honestly is a pretty good way to spend an evening.
{02} – On the way out, Jax pushed ahead of me so she could exit first. Just outside the doors she spun and said, “I’m so glad we had out talk, I do hope we’re on the same page.” “Same page?” I laughed.”How could we be? We’re in two different books.”
{03} – “I laighed, “Bad boys come with too much drama and heartache. I don’t have time for that.”
{04} – “Don’t let her get to you. She can only hurt you if you give her the power to. So don’t give it to her.” He pulled against his backpack straps as he spoke.
{05} – Holding a peony in my hand I looked up at Carice.”What about love?” Rolling her eyes, she answered, “Our set doesn’t marry for love. Love is for the young and idealistic. You spend enough time with someone and love eventually comes.” I shook my head and tucked in the peony. “You’re wrong. Love is something special. Something that if you’re lucky enough to find, you don’t throw it away.”

Final Conclusion: 5 Star Rating.
