{The Doggone Dog: Diana G. Gallagher}

{Synopsis} – When Kyle and Mia come across a dog with a collar but no tags, they're not sure what to do. The dog seems to miss his owner, but no one has reported him missing. Kyle and Mia don't know where to start. Will they ever track down the doggone dog's real home?

{My thoughts} – Kyle and Mia take Kyle’s dog Rex to the dog park. While they are there Rex runs off and finds a lost dog with no collar. Kyle and Mia walk around the whole park trying to find the owner but luck out. They take the dog home and ask Kyle’s mom if the dog can stay with them until they find it’s owner. His mom agrees and the search begins. Eventually they find the owner and discover why the dog became lost in the first place. The owner is an older gentleman that has trouble getting around and no transportation. Kyle and Mia and their friends decide that they will all help with the care of the gentleman’s dog as a means of trying to prevent it from running away again.

This book is a good book about helping others without the self-fish desire to help yourself. It is amazing what children can do if they want to make a difference. I hope that through all the SPCA work that we do in our house that my children learn how important it is to help others and that it is alright to help a stray animal as long as it isn’t posing as a threat. Some stray animals may attack when being approached. I have taught them that animals like that you need to tell an adult so that the child trying to help the animal doesn’t get hurt.

I also like how the book ends with discussion questions and gives you something to think about. I think any child can benefit from the thought process after finishing such a wonderful book. I look forward to seeing what my own children think of this book once I let them read it.

Final Conclusion: 5 Star Rating.
