{Cold As Ice: Sarah Mlynowski}

{Synopsis} – The magical sixth installment in this NEW YORK TIMES bestselling series!

Brrrrrrrr. This fairy tale is FREEZING!

Even though my brother and I had decided to stay away from the magic mirror, our puppy had other plans — he bounded right in. What choice did we have but to go in after him?

When we land in a winter wonderland, we realize we must be in the story of The Snow Queen. And this fairy tale is nothing like the movie. This Snow Queen is super-mean, and she turns our dog into an ice sculpture!

To get home we'll have to:
– Defrost our furry friend
– Ride a very chatty reindeer
– Learn to ice-skate
– Escape from a band of robbers

And if we're not careful . . . we could end up frozen ourselves!

{My thoughts} – In this book Abby is having a fallout with one of her best friends. She is trying to make her friend choose her over someone else and that isn’t the way to go about dealing with jealousy. Abby’s other friend ends up spending the night, although I don’t know what happened to her, because she isn’t mentioned near the end of the book which I’d found odd.

Abby and Jonah end up going on another adventure into fairy tale world. This time they were sucked into the mirror because their dog Prince was attacking it. He ended up setting the mirror into the motion and Abby had managed to make it to the basement just in time to see him go through. A few moments later Jonah had shown up and they both went into the mirror after the dog. When they got into the new world they discussed just where it might be that they would be and they concluded they were in the Ice Queens story.

This time though they don’t mess things up in the usual way, they end up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and then a cascade of events take place.

This story had a good moral behind it and I hope that many kids can learn from it. It kept flipping back and forth about the issue with Abby and her friend and the Ice Queen and how she forced people to be her friend and how it wasn’t right. I agree it isn’t right to force someone to be your friend and the way in which she does it is just terrible.

I think that any child that likes the story of Frozen will enjoy this book. It is a different take on what could have happened instead of the version that is commonly known through Disney. This book is well worth the read.

Final Conclusion: 5 Star Rating.
