{Catching Fire: Suzanne Collins}

{Synopsis} – Sparks are igniting.
Flames are spreading.
And the Capitol wants revenge.

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol – a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

In Catching Fire, the second novel in the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before…and surprising readers at every turn.

{My thoughts} – This book was full of twists and turns and not what I had expected. It shows that with a sound belief system anything is possible. It also shows that the government can be rather cruel in their ploys to stay in control. The ending surprised me but then it shouldn’t have after I had read the contents of the first book.

{Part One} – I have to admit this series is something else. The first book ended so nicely and then this book picked up right where it had let off. Amazing is all I can say. Katniss is lost, the world she knew gone. Replaced by visions and thoughts that have been approved by the Capitol. It makes me feel bad for her reading about how she has no choice but to go along with what the Capitol wants in order to attempt to save the lives of those she loves. I got to hand it to her she’s one determined girl that has the help and support of those she holds closest to her heart.

{Part Two} – I cannot believe the twist that was thrown into this part of the book. It made me so sad to think of what the actual outcome may be like and to know that the more defiant the tributes are the less likely they are to survive in the end as the Capitol has a barbaric way dealing with even the smallest form of disrespect. The “Quarter Quell” {75th hunger games} has finally begun and with it comes a whole lot more twists and turns. I must admit however, that this part of the book is very sad at least to me – I am almost unsure about my desire to read the third part because I know that it can most certainly only get worse as opposed to better – but the story-line pulls me in and I am determined to find out what happens.

{Part Three} – All I can say is wow. death, revenge, loyalty, the desire to survive, team work and so much more takes place inside this part. I am at awe of how well the characters play their parts. It is always nice to learn even more about the character’s that you have come to love within a book it gives you a sense of longing to be there with them, to see firsthand what they are seeing and the imagery within the book allows you that ability – to be there and see it all from the point of view of the characters.

Final Conclusion: 5 Star Rating.
