{Synopsis} – What if you needed a license to have a baby?
In a future marked by high-tech surveillance, in which unlicensed pregnancy is a felony, Sophie faces a tough decision: should she submit to the state's harsh demands, or face imprisonment and loss of her child to the education/labor camps, or go on the run, relying on the conductors of the revived Underground Railway, who may have their own agendas.
Not sure who she can trust or even who she dare confide in, Sophie faces hard decisions. She needs to make the right choices and make them fast, because if she hesitates she risks the loss of everything she values most. Dystopian thriller and love story, Get on Board Little Children takes the heroine from the drone-watched streets of Seattle to the limits of her endurance.
{My Thoughts} – I am a huge fan of Dystopian like books and this one really peeked my interest. Sophie and Josh are normal individuals living in a very unrealistically controlled world. The book takes place in Seattle for the most part and works its way to California and Mexico. I think that if I were to have to actually live the kind of life that the government expects people to live in this book, I’d want to get as far away as I could.
This book is based on the premise that you can’t have a child unless you can afford to buy a permit. Mind you the permit costs some outrageous amount. Those that become pregnant are faced with going to jail, being forced to end their dilemma and not so healthy ways or live a life on the run from the government that no longer operates under the beliefs in which is was once built on back when Washington had been president.
I found it very easy to be drawn into the pages of the story. I wanted to know what happened with Sophie and Josh and I was saddened by a lot of what they were forced to go through. I won’t tell you what happens, but I will tell you this is one very nice and fast read for that of like a rainy day. It is so captivating, and well written from beginning to end and I am certain any questions you are asking yourself as you read are answered before the book is completely finished.
I highly recommend this book for anyone that enjoys reading dystopian books.
