{Lucy Dakota: Rocky Mountain Beginnings: C.S. Shride}

{Synopsis} – Lucy Dakota is a typical teenage girl: confused yet intelligent, unhappy with her lot in life yet full of vitality and enthusiasm. Troubled by rocky relationships with friends and boyfriends, she finds it hard to fit in at school until she's invited to join an adventure scouting club and starts exploring the natural world. Her first adventures take place in the backcountry of her home state, Colorado, where she discovers her more daring side, as well as the young woman she is becoming. Join Lucy as she transforms from a timid, chubby tween who hides from school bullies in her teacher's office to a brave, spirited, globe-trotting leader on the hiking trail and beyond. This exciting new adventure series for young adults is sure to encourage readers to discover their strengths and take on the world, whether at school, home-or, like Lucy, skipping across the continents.

{My thoughts} – I read this book fairly quickly because it had very easily drawn me into the pages. This in the kind of book that leaves a mark on the reader and one that I will gladly read again and again. I enjoyed getting to know Lucy Dakota. She has a wonderful personality and I found myself being able to relate to her and what she had been through and was going through.

This is a great book for readers that need a pick me up and need to understand that they are capable of doing anything if they really put their minds to it. Throughout this entire book Lucy is tested both physically and mentally and at the end she comes out with the realization that she really is capable of much more then she had ever imagined.

I honestly can not wait to let my daughter read this book. I am often having to tell her that if she would put her mind to things and be more positive she’d feel better and more accomplished. I know she doesn’t really understand what I mean when I say, but this book is full of simple life lessons that help to show the reader just that. If you don’t give up and you believe in yourself you can accomplish great things in the present and the future.

I hope to read more of this series in the future and believe that this was a solid, strong and well written beginning to the series. Be warned you’ll go through many emotions reading the book, but in the end it’s all worth everything you feel because you were able to connect with the characters and with the book and to me that’s one of that greatest gifts a reader can get from an author.
